When we first met Bettie on a beach in Mombasa, Kenya, in 2005, we couldn't have imagined the incredible journey that lay ahead of her. Today, we're thrilled to share Bettie's inspiring story - a testament to the power of education and the impact of your support.
Bettie was one of the first children supported by The Free Town Trust. Growing up in challenging circumstances, her education was intermittent as her mother struggled to make ends meet braiding hair on the beach. But Bettie's potential was evident from the start.
With the support of The Free Town Trust, Bettie was able to complete her school education in Kenya. But her journey didn't stop there. Her dedication and hard work earned her a scholarship to continue her studies at college. Another scholarship followed, taking her to university in Portland, Oregon.
In 2023, Bettie achieved a dream that once seemed impossible - she graduated as a Medical Doctor from Portland University. Today, she works as a Junior Doctor, saving lives and making a difference every day.
Bettie's journey from a beach in Mombasa to a hospital in Oregon is more than just a personal success story. It's a powerful reminder of what's possible when we invest in education and believe in the potential of every child.
Your support of The Free Town Trust makes stories like Bettie's possible. While not every child we support will become a doctor, every child deserves the chance to pursue their dreams and reach their full potential.
